Mom was watching one of them morning news programs (and I use the term news loosely). This never bodes well, because you just never know what negative influence they're going to have on her, that will ultimately effect us. Well low and behold the segment this morning was about testing intelligence in dogs, so Mom gets the brilliant idea to test us 3.
For Test 1, she draped a towel over our head. Oz got out from under his towel in seconds, which brought a shout of glee from Mom, so I'm assuming he passed with flying colors. Gull wiggled his nose out from under his, then proceeded to just walk around with it still draped over his head, with just enough of his eyes peaking out to see where he was going. The Sheik look is him actually. Mom musta thought so too, cuz he got a big grin from her. Those Collies they just don't quite comprehend what towels are for, so when Mom plopped it on my head, I showed'em how it's done. I did an immediate roll and started rubbing my head all over it. Then I picked it up and shook it for good measure... Take That! And trotted away with my head held high, accompanied by Mom's laughter.
For Test 2, she took 3 bowls and placed them on the floor, then put a treat under one, while we watched. She started with Oz. Told him to "Stay", then after he saw where she put the treat, she had him face the opposite direction of the bowls. I'm not sure what this was for, maybe to see if we'd forget about that treat. Hah! Not likely. Then she sent Oz after the treat. He went straight to the bowl with the treat and tapped it with his foot. More squeals of glee from Mom. Man, sometimes it's hard to like that guy.
Next was Gull. He stayed too. What is it with these guys? Always following directions. It's downright annoying. Then when she released him for the treat, it took him 2 tries to get to the right bowl, but once he did, there was no waiting politely for Mom to move the bowl. He grabbed it up and flung it across the room, then gobbled down his treat. Gotta give him some style points for that, cuz it was almost terrier like.
Finally my turn. Did I Stay? Nope. So Mom had to toss a treat in the opposite direction for a distraction. Score 1 treat for me. Did I go to the bowl, when she called me? Nope. So she lured me over with another treat. Score 2 treats for me. Did I then attempt to figure out which bowl had the treat? Nope. Just bounced all around her, looking cute. So she picked up the bowl for me. Score 3 treats for me.
Hummmmm. 1 treat for the Collies and 3 for me. Who do you think is smarter?
